Yoriichi Demon Theory starts from a title people use loosely. The strongest slayer of the Sengoku era is Yoriichi Tsugikuni. He built Sun Breathing, cut Muzan into pieces a head could hide in, and walked past every pillar of that age. The Corps record is blunt: he taught the derivative breaths, the best of those students became the first Hashira, and Yoriichi himself is not listed as one of them. His twin Michikatsu held the office. Michikatsu already took Muzan’s blood and became Kokushibo. The interesting question is the other brother. What if the sun drank the same cup.
Who actually held the Sengoku office
Sengoku is the century when Breathing stops being one man’s dance and becomes a school. Yoriichi tries to teach Sun Breathing straight. Nobody copies it clean. He cuts the forms down to Water, Wind, Flame, Stone, and Thunder so other bodies can use them. The slayers who master those cuts become Hashira. That is the origin of the office the Hashira ranking already mapped for Tanjiro’s war. Gyomei sits at the top of that living nine. He is still a human pillar. Yoriichi sits above that chart as a historical sword, not as “Hashira number ten.”
Calling him the strongest Sengoku Hashira is fan shorthand. The office is real. His name is not on the roster. Michikatsu is the Sengoku Hashira who actually turns. He wants the title of strongest samurai, watches a younger twin do in childhood what he cannot do as an adult, and then hears the mark’s fine print: awaken it and you are dead before 25. Muzan’s offer cheats that clock. Kokushibo lives about four more centuries on the same bloodline, with Moon Breathing as a copy of Sun. The mark page is the source for that trade. Yoriichi was born with the mark and lived into his eighties anyway. He never needed the cheat. The theory has to force the turn, because he would not take the blood to escape a deadline. He would take it only if the story broke him first.
The forest that almost ended Muzan
Canon gives Muzan one meeting with Yoriichi in a bamboo forest. Transparent World shows seven hearts and five brains that keep moving. Yoriichi folds every Sun form into a thirteenth cut and takes Muzan apart. About 1,500 of 1,800 pieces die on the spot. The leftover mass, head-sized, runs. Those leftover cells still burn in the Infinity Castle four hundred years later. Muzan spends the rest of his life calling that man the real monster. He never stands in front of the Corps again if he can send someone else. After the meeting he and Kokushibo try to wipe Sun Breathing off the map. They almost succeed. The dance survives as a family ritual in the Kamado house, which is the only reason Tanjiro ever holds the form.
What the Corps does next is the lever this theory actually needs. Slayers report that Michikatsu has turned, killed the Oyakata, and taken Muzan’s blood. Yoriichi takes the blame for three failures at once: his brother, the escape, and Tamayo walking free. Other slayers demand he kill himself as penance. The new Oyakata spares him and casts him out instead. Some Hashira stay in contact. The institution he built the breaths for still puts him outside the gate. That disgrace is heavier than the 25-year clock he never faced. A man who does not need Muzan’s bargain for lifespan might still hear it after the Corps he armed has told him to die. The theory’s door is that expulsion, not a deadline he already outlived.
Canon never walks him through it. He leaves in banishment, lives into his eighties, and dies standing after one unreturned draw against Kokushibo. Old, half-blind, throat opened, unmarked by the fight. The fan fork starts here: Muzan finds him after the ousting, not in the forest, and offers the same cup Michikatsu already drank. Keep the mark. Keep the sun. Stop burying students at 25. Stop being the man the Corps threw away. Without that second meeting he stays human, which is the ending the manga already chose. A demon version never reaches that quiet last stance. He also never leaves earrings and a dance for a coal-burning family in the mountains.
Yoriichi Demon Theory: what the body would keep
Three things do not need a new power to get worse. He already has the mark from birth. He already sees the Transparent World as a child. He already turns a Nichirin blade bright red and burns demon cells so they do not finish healing. Put those on a body that no longer ages out and does not stop at sundown. Kokushibo is the control sample: same bloodline, Moon Breathing, mark survived by turning, four hundred years of extra practice, still cut down in one motion by an 80-year-old human Yoriichi. Scale the twin up, not the student. If the weaker brother becomes Upper Rank 1 and still loses that draw, the stronger brother with immortality is not “a slightly better Kokushibo.” He is the cut that already found every organ Muzan owns, running on a clock that no longer stops at 25.
A Blood Demon Art on that frame is guesswork. The honest guess is sun, not extra arms. Kokushibo grew blades out of his flesh because Moon is a copy. Yoriichi would not need a copy. Regeneration plus a red blade plus a thirteenth form is enough to ruin both sides of the war. Upper Ranks become food or deserters. Hashira become the same field of corpses people already imagine when they say the Corps ends in one night. Muzan’s curse is the only leash. Demons he creates sit under him. Whether that leash holds a man who already took him apart as a mortal is the part no panel answers. Tamayo walked off the leash and kept a human mind. That is the second documented fork: blood without obedience. A demon Yoriichi could sit in either chair. Weapon, or hunter who no longer dies at dawn.
Two forks, both delete the Taisho story
Fork one: the curse holds. He becomes Muzan’s worst weapon. Sun Breathing dies with the teacher instead of hiding in a Hinokami dance. There is no Kamado line that still knows the steps. Tanjiro never inherits earrings. The Corps that reaches the Taisho years is a thinner, blinder army, and Infinity Castle never gets a sun user in the room. Muzan still fears the memory, but the living sword now works for him. That century ends the war early and ugly.
Fork two: the curse slips. Then you have a demon who still wants Muzan gone. Two immortals now know what that thirteenth cut can do — Muzan from surviving it, this Yoriichi from having thrown it. The Corps becomes a spectator. Ubuyashiki’s curse might lift if Muzan dies, or it might not, because the killer is no longer human. Tamayo’s medicine never gets built the same way. Shinobu’s poison has nothing to tag if the strongest thing in the room is already a demon with a red blade. Either fork deletes the story you watched. That is why the manga left him human. The quiet death at 85 keeps Tanjiro possible. The theory is interesting because it is expensive. It costs the entire Taisho war to run.
Where that fork sits on this site’s scale
On the Corps ladder, Hashira is S-rank work. Gyomei is the top of that band. National Level, in the hunter census this site uses, is a title past S and still human. A demon Yoriichi leaves both bands. He is closer to the problem the Monarch ranking is built to hold: a king-tier body the human office cannot grade. That is mapping, not a crossover fight. Gotouge did not rank him against Antares. Do not write that chart. The useful comparison stays inside Demon Slayer: human Yoriichi already sits above every Hashira and above Kokushibo. Demon Yoriichi sits above that again, or sits under Muzan as a cursed copy. Those are the only two slots the lore leaves open.
Fandom threads like to flatten this into “he solos everyone.” The tighter read is institutional. The Corps is a cursed family trying to kill their own relative. Add a demon who invented their whole syllabus and the syllabus turns on them. Upper Ranks lose their ranking logic because the sun is now on the moon chart. Kagaya’s foresight does not get a clean ending. That is the part worth writing, not a tournament bracket.
What the theory is allowed to claim
Gotouge never wrote Yoriichi as a demon. ufotable never boarded that scene. Aniplex has no “Sengoku Hashira turns” blog. Michikatsu is the only Tsugikuni who takes the blood. Yoriichi lives past the mark, is cast out after the forest, cuts his brother decades later, and stops. Everything above that line is a fork, not a leak. If you want the living nine as they stand, the Hashira page already ranked them from Shinobu to Gyomei. If you want the next list, it is demons, with Kokushibo at the old-moon top, not a second Yoriichi wearing his face.
The sun stayed human. That is the canon mercy. The theory only asks how dark the century gets if it does not. Michikatsu took the cup and became a moon. Yoriichi was thrown out and died standing. Swap those choices and there is no Tanjiro left to finish the job.
