Elden Ring Tarnished Edition reached Nintendo Switch 2 on 28 August 2026. Three days later the Switch 2 eShop chart for the week of 30 August had it at number one, ahead of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2. FromSoftware’s 2022 open-world RPG finally sits in a handheld bag with the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion in the same install. The level tax did not change. Runes in, stats out, rest at a site of grace.
What shipped on the 28th
Bandai Namco’s June note is the inventory. Tarnished Edition is the base Lands Between plus Shadow of the Erdtree, two new starting classes, new armor, and Torrent skins. Nintendo’s own page repeats the date and the co-op rules: two other Tarnished by password or nearby summon, invasions and Colosseum fights as before. Notebookcheck logged the digital tag at $79.99 and the download at 41 GB. Physical copies are a game-key card at the same price.
RPG Site named the classes on launch day: Heavy Knight and Idus Knight. Notebookcheck flagged Idus Knight as the high-dexterity option. Torrent can wear Tree Sentinel and Silver of Caria looks. Those extras went to PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam the same morning as the Tarnished Pack, $4.99 in the US and €4.99 in Europe. Patch 1.17 has to be on the disc or the download before the pack unlocks. Skip the patch and the new classes stay locked.
Eurogamer recorded the delay out of 2025: performance adjustments. The Verge’s pre-launch piece called the port playable enough to hook a returning player. This page will not invent a locked 60. If you care about handheld frames, read a comparison bench, not a lore desk.
The level that matters
Elden Ring does not stamp a letter at awakening. You kill, you pocket runes, you sit at a grace, you buy a soul level and pour it into Vigor, Mind, Endurance, Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Faith, or Arcane. The number on the status screen moves every rest. A bad spread can be corrected with a later respec at Rennala. That loop is why the game belongs next to other progression titles on this site.
A Solo Leveling hunter rank freezes when the Association meter reads the body. Jinwoo is the only file that kept moving, and only because the System made him a Player. A Tarnished file moves because you fed it runes. Same hunger. Different clerk.
Starting class is the first tax. Heavy Knight and Idus Knight change the first twenty levels, not the ending. Wretch still exists if you want a blank sheet. After that the map is the dungeon: catacombs, hero’s graves, evergaols, then the Realm of Shadow once Erdtree is on. Each boss is a gate. Death drops the rune pile. Pick it up or lose the level you were about to buy.
Level bands for a first Switch 2 file
These are community ranges, not a FromSoftware lock. Rock Paper Shotgun’s area list is the spine. Game Truth’s boss list sits next to it. Weapon upgrade often matters more than five extra soul levels.
Limgrave west, level 1–20, weapon +0 to +2. Weeping Peninsula 20–30. Margit, the Fell Omen, 20–25 on Game Truth, then Stormveil Castle 30–40 for Godrick. Liurnia 40–50. Raya Lucaria 45–60, Rennala around 40–45. Radahn 55–65 with summons. Altus 70–80. Leyndell, Royal Capital, 90–110. Mountaintops 100–110. Fire Giant 90–100. Maliketh 105–115. Radagon and the Elden Beast 120 and up.
Shadow of the Erdtree asks for Radahn and Mohg first. Rock Paper Shotgun’s DLC page says start at 120–150. If Mohg is already dead, you are close enough to walk in. Inside the Realm of Shadow the real meter is Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ashes at a grace, not another twenty points of Vigor. A level 150 file with zero fragments still gets flattened. A 120 file that picks fragments as they appear stays in the fight.
Vigor to 40 before you leave Limgrave if bosses keep deleting you in one hit. Then the one stat your weapon scales on. Do not split eight ways because Heavy Knight looks thick. Respec waits at Rennala after the academy.
How this week’s chart happened
Nintendo Everything’s 30 August eShop list is the public scoreboard. Elden Ring at one. Metal Gear collection at two. Mario Kart World at three. That is a launch week, not a lifetime rank. The 30 million copies Bandai Namco keeps citing are the old platforms. Switch 2 is a new queue of first-timers carrying the same grace sites on a train.
FromSoftware’s next Nintendo date is The Duskbloods, a Switch 2 exclusive the Kadokawa filing already parked in 2026. Tarnished Edition is the warm-up file for that audience. It is not Duskbloods. Do not write a sequel date from a chart position.
What to do if you buy it this week
Pick a class and commit for Limgrave. Vigor first until the early bosses stop one-shotting you. Then the stat your weapon actually scales on. Do not spread eight ways because the new armor looks heavy. The Tarnished Pack on PS5 or Steam is only worth $4.99 if you already own the 2022 disc and want the two classes. New Switch 2 buyers already have them in the box.
Co-op is two allies. Invasions still happen. Password summoning is how you drag a friend through a dungeon you already cleared. None of that replaces the rune pile. You can share a fight. You cannot share a level.
Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, short list
28 August on Switch 2. Erdtree in the same install. Heavy Knight, Idus Knight, Torrent skins. Margit around 20–25. Godrick 30–40. Leyndell 90–110. Erdtree 120–150 plus fragments. $79.99 and 41 GB if you go digital. Number one on the 30 August eShop list. The climb is runes and a grace site. The handheld is only the bag you carry it in.
